Custom Windows

I am currently working on some custom HO scale windows frames. I am cutting them out of 1/64" think birch. This is a slow process, cut some test windows, send them to the client. Have them do some test fitting and checking, repeat. We are learning how to set up the laser and the drawings to get the accuracy we want and need. The laser cuts a line around 0.005 inches wide. When cutting something that is only 0.020 inches wide it makes a difference

Custom Building Kit

The San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum started building an HO layout of the San Luis Obispo area in 2013. The layout will cover the Southern Pacific standard gauge track from Templeton / Paso Robles down the Cuesta Grade, San Luis Obispo Yard, then down to the Guadalupe area. It will also cover the Pacific Coast Railroad narrow gauge track with a focus on Avila Beach and the Harford Pier. The narrow gauge track will make its way back to the San Luis Obispo Yard.

A hotel was built at the base of the pier in 1876. In 1882 the hotel was sold and renamed Hotel Marre. The hotel was lost to fire in 1934. Curtiss H. Johnson author of "The Pacific Coast Railway: Central California's Premier Narrow Gauge" built a model of the Hotel Marre for the Avila Beach Scene at the museum. He drew laser ready CAD plans for the model and Prawn Designs cut the part out of 1/32, 1/16 and 1/8 Baltic Birch Plywood. Here are some pictures of the model in progress and right after it was placed in the scene at the museum.
